Is your trade business findable?

Shaun, 20+ years in UK construction

About ten minutes, if the profiles already exist. Tick what a customer can already find. We search the AI world every week so you don't have to. The links are the longer guides when a box stays empty.

    • The profile is claimed in the trading name you use on the van and on invoices.
    • The main category is your trade. Extra categories are jobs you actually do.
    • The phone is the one you answer. If you have a website, that address is in the website field.
    • The area is the patch you will travel. If customers do not visit your home, the address is hidden.
    • The description is in your own words.

    Google Business Profile guide

    • You can open your Google reviews from the profile.
    • You have a simple way to ask a customer after the work is done, without money off and without telling them what to write.
    • A poor review has a short, calm reply, or you have read it and decided to leave it.
    • If you use Checkatrade, ask in the same way, and reply in the same way.

How to ask for Google reviewsHow to reply to a poor review

    • You open it on your phone and can read it without pinching.
    • The phone number calls when you tap it.
    • The jobs are named in the words a customer would type.
    • The towns or postcodes are places you will actually go.
    • The photos are jobs you did.

    Do you need a website?

    • Tick only the ones you use. You do not need an account on all three.
    • The profile name matches the trading name on Google.
    • The description matches the jobs you do. It does not say approved, insured, or top-rated unless that is true and you can point at it.
    • The phone number is the same one as on Google.
    • If you use Facebook, recent photos of your work sit under that same name.

    Checkatrade and MyBuilder profile guide

    • Write one line: trading name, the phone you answer, and the address or area you publish.
    • Google, your website, and each directory or Facebook page match that line.
    • An old mobile, a shortened name, or a town you have left is the mismatch to fix first.

Where the public name is setWhat the website should say

    • You have a few finished jobs, taken on your phone.
    • They are on Google, and on the website or directory you use.
    • They are your work. A stock photo of someone else's kitchen does not count.
    • The caption does not include the house number.

An empty box is the next job, not a failing mark. Repeat customers and a full diary can sit beside a thin Facebook page. The boxes are a check of what a stranger can see.

Common questions

Do I need a website and a directory?

Tick the places you already use. A website is the page you own. Checkatrade, MyBuilder, and Facebook are theirs. The website guide sets out when a site earns its place. You do not have to be on all three directories.

What if Facebook still has an old mobile number?

Change it to the number you answer, and use the same trading name as on Google. An old number is the usual mismatch.

Will this take ten minutes if I have no Google profile yet?

The ten minutes is for checking what is already there. Creating a Google Business Profile from scratch is the Google guide, then you come back and tick the box.
